About First Comes Marriage by Mary Balogh

Set in Regency England, this first novel in the Huxtable Quintet centers on Vanessa Huxtable Dew, a young widow who offers herself in marriage to Elliott Wallace, Viscount Lyngate, while trying to save her eldest sister from a loveless match. Elliott needs a wife and accepts Vanessa’s unconventional proposal, though each has reasons for marrying beyond love.

Their marriage brings unexpected physical attraction and changing feelings, while a secret from the past draws the Huxtable family into the story. Readers looking for Regency historical romance, especially a marriage-of-convenience story, will find those elements at the heart of this novel.
