About The Unkindest Tide by Seanan McGuire
A centuries-old bargain between the Selkies and the sea witch Luidaeg has reached its reckoning. When Luidaeg tells October “Toby” Daye that the Selkies must pay what they owe—and that Toby must take part—Toby is unable to refuse. The journey leads to the fabled Duchy of Ships, where the Selkies are summoned to hear Luidaeg’s price.
The gathering is complicated by the arrival of Dianda Lorden’s brother, who intends to arrest her for treason against the Undersea, and by the murder of a Selkie woman whose skin has been taken. Published by DAW Books in 2019, this is the thirteenth October Daye novel, combining urban fantasy, fae, magic, and mystery. It suits readers following the series and those looking for fantasy centered on Selkies and a dangerous old debt.
