About The Mermaid's Madness by Jim C. Hines
A familiar mermaid fairy tale provides the starting point for this fantasy retelling. A king’s daughter saves a human prince and falls in love, giving up her voice, family, and life beneath the sea in the hope of joining him.
But the prince loves someone else, and the familiar version says the mermaid sacrifices her life for his happiness. The story’s promise that she accepted this fate is challenged here. Readers drawn to fairy-tale retellings, mermaids, and fantasy will find a darker reworking of a well-known tale.
