About The Summer Boy by Philippe Besson

Set in the summer of 1985 on a resort island off the coast of France, The Summer Boy follows six teenagers—five boys and one girl—as they share what feels like a final season of freedom before adulthood. Their days bring sun and companionship; their nights carry secrets, jealousy, and longing.

Philippe is drawn to Nicolas, a quiet newcomer who seems to understand him, though part of Nicolas remains out of reach. When tragedy ends the summer and one of the teenagers vanishes, the others are left with a mystery that lasts. Readers of queer and literary fiction may be drawn to this story of adolescent desire, friendship, and loss.
