About The Governess and the Rogue by Mimi Matthews
Dismissed without a reference and stranded in India, Victorian governess Beatrice Layton takes a position with the only family willing to employ her in exchange for passage home to England. The voyage grows increasingly difficult, but an injured former soldier aboard ship becomes an unexpected ally.
Colonel Jack Beresford proposes a convenient engagement to help Bea, intended to last only until they reach land. Back in England, former passengers, society matrons, and Jack’s family complicate their arrangement. This sixth Somerset Stories novel suits readers looking for Victorian romance, a sea-voyage setting, and a marriage-of-convenience premise.
