About Bodies of Magic by Freya Marske
At the Academie of the Grand Duchy of Sieuxerr, mages with a healer’s gift have five years to master their power before facing the Grand Exam. The five-day trial puts students into randomly chosen groups, with each group passing or failing together.
When the exam group discovers a dead classmate in the hall, their practical cases become only part of the challenge. The scholars must confront their connections to the brilliant dead girl, keep their own secrets in view, and investigate a murder while their futures—and a larger secret with the potential to change the world—hang in the balance. This dark academia fantasy may suit readers who enjoy magical academies, high-stakes trials, and murder mysteries.
