Roger Deakin (1943–2006) was an English writer and environmentalist who lived at Walnut Tree Farm in Suffolk. His books include Waterlog: A Swimmer’s Journey Through Britain, an account of swimming in the country’s rivers and lakes, and Wildwood, a journey into the lives and cultural meaning of trees, published after his death. His writing brings together close observation of the natural world, personal adventure, and concern for conservation. Deakin was also involved with Common Ground, an organization dedicated to celebrating and protecting local places.
