Lara Prescott is an American novelist whose work explores the lives of women, the power of literature, and the forces of history. Her debut novel, The Secrets We Kept, draws on the Cold War-era story of how the CIA helped bring Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago to readers in the Soviet Union. Told through the perspectives of Pasternak’s companion Olga Ivinskaya and women working in the agency’s typing pool, the novel blends historical events with imagined lives.
