Gretchen McCulloch is a Canadian linguist and author whose work explores how people communicate online. She is the author of Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language, a study of how digital spaces shape language, from texting and emoji to memes and online communities. McCulloch also co-hosts Lingthusiasm, a podcast about linguistics, with fellow linguist Lauren Gawne. Her writing brings linguistic ideas to a broad audience, showing how everyday internet language reflects the ways people connect and express themselves.
