About What Hurts Us by Maggie C. Gates
In Falls Creek, North Carolina, flight nurse Layla Mousavi is still finding her footing when police officer Callum Fletcher asks her to pose as his fiancée. She needs a place to stay; he needs a fiancé in a hurry. Their arrangement also means facing a town full of gossip, Callum’s meddling grandmother, and a former date with plans of her own.
The setup brings together small-town complications and a romance with some significant obstacles: Layla has sworn off dating cops, while Callum has commitment issues. Readers looking for a fake-fiancé romance with lively comic mishaps and a close-knit-town backdrop may enjoy this one.
