About Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett
Football arrives in Ankh-Morpork in a new, faster form, and the wizards of Unseen University are challenged to win a match without using magic. As the big game approaches, the story brings together an urchin with a talent for kicking a tin can, a pie-maker, a young woman with unexpected potential, and the mysterious Mr Nutt, who knows little about himself.
Published in 2009, this comic fantasy combines the Discworld setting with football, magic, and satire. It will suit readers looking for humorous fantasy and a story in which a sporting event has consequences beyond the match itself.
