About The Waiting by Michael Connelly
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit pursue a DNA lead linking a recently arrested young man to the “Pillowcase Rapist,” a serial rapist and murderer whose crimes stopped twenty years earlier. The investigation leads to the arrested man’s father, but Ballard and her team face secrets and legal hurdles as they try to move forward.
At the same time, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen. Unable to report the theft without risking her career, she investigates on her own, a choice that brings her to Harry Bosch for help. The unit also gains a volunteer: patrol officer Maddie Bosch, Harry’s daughter, whose reasons for joining Ballard’s cold-case work are not what they first appear. Published in 2024, this crime and detective novel will suit readers interested in police procedure, unsolved cases, and the linked Bosch and Ballard series.
