About The Tailgate by Elin Hilderbrand
First published as a digital short story in 2014, The Tailgate follows Dabney Kimball and Clendenin Hughes, young lovers attending separate colleges: Harvard and Yale. With the schools’ big game approaching, Dabney makes the trip to New Haven to see Clen, despite the personal difficulty of traveling.
At the tailgate, she sees Clen connecting with another girl and begins to question the bond she has always considered unshakable. This contemporary romance offers a snapshot of young love at a crossroads and introduces characters whose story continues in Hilderbrand’s novel The Matchmaker. It may suit readers looking for a brief romance or a companion to that novel.
