About The Infinite State by Richard Swan
Katherine Fuller is set to inherit the wealth of her late husband, an esteemed member of Pater Aeternus, the ruling party of the galaxy-spanning Decurion Empire. In a society shaped by rigid hierarchy, surveillance and control, her inheritance offers a rare chance: she plans to buy a virgin world and build a fairer society founded on democracy.
But the Empire will not easily tolerate that challenge. As Katherine secretly gathers allies, she becomes entangled with a disgraced investigator and a hypersled pilot in a struggle to escape the state’s authority. This science-fiction novel brings together space-opera scale and an examination of life under a totalitarian regime.
