About The Fires of December by Brandon Sanderson
In a forgotten land marked by colorful rivers of demon blood, a young woman named December learns that a devastating plague is coming. Her attempt to warn the king’s court sends her sailing up the River Violet, where she faces doubtful officials and court intrigue.
A chatty priestess and a fledgling fashion designer join December on the journey, while a roguish count may prove important to both her quest and her heart. Presented as a standalone tale narrated by Hoid, the story is part of the Cosmere’s Hoid’s Travails and can be read in any order. It may suit readers looking for character-led fantasy with a high-stakes warning, a journey, and royal-court complications.
