About Shadow's Hostage by Mary Stone
As the Shadow Island Historical Society prepares to raise money to restore its lighthouse, an armed man claiming the monument as his family legacy barricades the doors. One hostage is dying, and the others—members of the society—fear for their lives.
Interim Sheriff Rebecca West must try to secure their release despite having no hostage-negotiation experience. The captor, a local man recently released from a mental hospital, makes strange claims about his mother's disappearance and identifies missing people from elsewhere. This mystery thriller centers on a hostage crisis, a disputed family legacy, and questions surrounding those disappearances.
