About Rewards by Emma Cline
Keri and Paula are strangers who share a grievance: the Devlin brothers, whose success on an entrepreneurial reality show has brought them fame and rewards. Keri is an investor whose expertise is dismissed on the show; Paula is their accommodating neighbor, long worn down by their ingratitude.
In this wry short story, Cline considers male privilege and the uneven value placed on women’s work and experience. Part of Currency, a collection of stories about wealth, class, competition, and collapse, Rewards will suit readers looking for sharp contemporary fiction about gender and social advantage.
