In New York City in 2060, Lieutenant Eve Dallas investigates the murder of fellow officer Amarylis Coltraine, who was killed with her own weapon. The case is personal: Coltraine had begun a serious relationship with Chief Medical Examiner Morris, a friend of Eve’s.
Eve questions Coltraine’s colleagues, informants, and neighbors, while her husband, Roarke, searches through records of Coltraine’s life in Atlanta. A threatening package sent to Eve raises the stakes, and the investigation uncovers a connection to painful parts of their pasts.
