About Not a Drill by Lee Child
On a journey through Maine, Jack Reacher catches a ride with a group of young Canadians bound for a hike in the region’s dense wilderness. After sharing a meal, they go their separate ways, and Reacher explores a quiet town surrounded by countryside.
The calm does not last: the trail is abruptly closed, and military police arrive in force. This short story builds its tension around a simple uncertainty—is it a drill, or the start of something more serious? It also includes a preview of Child’s Jack Reacher novel Personal.
A compact read for fans of Lee Child’s thrillers and readers looking for a short Jack Reacher story.
