About Icarus by K. Ancrum
K. Ancrum’s 2024 young adult novel reimagines the myth of Icarus as a contemporary queer romance with elements of suspense. Icarus Gallagher steals priceless art from wealthy Mr. Black, replacing it with forgeries made by his father. Their thefts are driven by revenge for Mr. Black’s role in the death of Icarus’s mother.
When Icarus is caught by Helios, Mr. Black’s son, Helios offers a bargain instead of exposing him: friendship. Their growing closeness challenges Icarus’s rules for staying safe, while both young men confront the constraints surrounding their families. The story will appeal to readers looking for YA romance, queer fiction, and contemporary retellings of classical mythology.
