About Gone to Darkness by Barbara Nickless
Newly appointed homicide detective Sydney Parnell brings instinct and field experience to Denver’s Major Crimes Unit. Her first case there is a brutal murder: a man is tortured, killed, and left in a refrigerated train car with cryptic messages carved into his body.
As Sydney, her K9 partner Clyde, and her former nemesis and reluctant mentor Len Bandoni investigate, they look beyond the victim’s connection to an elite club called the Superior Gentlemen. The case opens onto darker currents and a series of crimes that puts the detectives in danger and threatens Denver.
The fourth Sydney Rose Parnell mystery, published by Thomas & Mercer in 2020, pairs a homicide investigation with a protagonist whose instincts are not always welcomed by her mentor. It may appeal to readers of crime procedurals, suspense, and mysteries featuring a working K9 partner.
