About Adèle by Leïla Slimani

Adèle appears to have a settled, successful life in Paris: she is a journalist, married to a surgeon, and raising a young son. Beneath that orderly surface, however, she is bored and caught in a compulsive pattern of extramarital affairs, arranging her days around them and lying to her husband.

Slimani’s suspenseful novel examines sexual compulsion, secrecy, and the distance between outward respectability and private desire. It may appeal to readers interested in psychologically charged fiction about addiction and the consequences of trying to escape an unsatisfying life.
