About A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future... by Michael J. Fox
In this humorous, optimistic memoir, Michael J. Fox makes the case that important learning can happen outside a classroom, especially when life takes an unexpected turn. Drawing on his own experience of leaving high school to pursue acting and moving from Canada to Los Angeles at eighteen, he reflects on the lessons he gained along the way.
Fox connects those experiences to subjects such as economics, political science, and comparative literature, using personal stories and anecdotes to explain how work, activism, and reading shaped his education. Graduates and readers interested in memoirs about learning, pursuing a career, and adapting to setbacks may find his perspective especially appealing.
